OVERVIEW

Reporting to the project PIs, the Research Assistant (RA) will be responsible for supporting research activities related to the Bridges to Better Experiences and Outcomes for Black Birthing People: A Participatory Action Research Study (known as ‘Bridges to Better Experiences’ henceforth) project at the Michael Garron Hospital (MGH). The Research Assistant will conduct project-specific recruitment, help coordinate and attend advisory panel meetings, conduct qualitative data collection, and contribute to data analysis throughout the project with the support of the project team. The Research Assistant will also support the project’s dissemination activities, including working on literature reviews and developing abstracts for publication and presentations (and will receive authorship credit).

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in a related area preferred.  


QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will go to candidates who have qualitative research related to the project area, demonstrated commitment to upholding the project’s priorities on equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, and have a clear understanding of current research and analysis relevant to health equity and anti-racism. Preference will also be given to demonstrable lived/living experience as an African/Black person that is applicable to the role. Good interpersonal, communication, and participant group facilitation skills will be an asset. The candidate should have knowledge and experience in obtaining informed consent for research studies. Knowledge and experience in conducting qualitative research interviews and focus groups would be helpful. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Demonstrated skill in performing academic literature searches and professional and academic writing preferred. Able to work independently, without immediate supervision, and as part of a team. A high degree of professionalism and respect for colleagues. Demonstrated ability to manage conflicting priorities and confidential data.
