Position Overview

The Quality Specialist facilitates, mentors and steers hospital teams to build on and improve practices focused on the delivery of high quality, safe patient care that is aligned with the organization’s vision and strategic goals. The individual will collaborate with multiple teams across the organization to improve the health experience of our patients by contributing to the engineering of safe systems, ensuring that patients receive the safest care, and reducing organizational risk. The ideal candidate will support the identification and prioritization of quality improvement opportunities to develop control and evaluation plans to assure sustained results.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develops and sustains best practices in patient safety and quality by providing guidance, education and subject matter expertise in the planning and management of quality and patient safety initiatives across the organization.
  • Fosters a culture of quality and patient safety across the organization.
  • Designs and facilitates education in support of patient safety standards and ensures transfer of knowledge through follow-up, evaluation and sustainability planning.
  • Facilitates the implementation of quality improvement activities and acts as a resource to clinical program leaders in the development and maintenance of quality improvement processes.
  • Leads/participates in process review, patient safety incident reviews and FMEAs related to quality/safety improvement within clinical programs.
  • Develops projects, process improvements and action plans in collaboration with unit level leadership to address gaps identified through patient safety events, incident trend analysis and partnership with various stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders in the development of policies, procedures and application of best practices affecting patient and staff safety.
  • May perform other duties as assigned as they relate to the delivery of high quality, person centered care.

Education

  • BScN or related undergraduate health sciences degree required.
  • Minimum five (5) years of health care experience required.

Experience

  • Demonstrated experience using project management methodology and tools to support the delivery of project specific logistics and timelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication– a strong listener, speaker and presenter with experience in facilitating groups with competing interests.
  • Demonstrated decision making, problem solving and priority setting skills.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills, with the ability to maintain flexibility, prioritize workload and remain detail oriented in the face of changing priorities.
  • Solid relationship management, decision making, consultation, and coaching skills.
