Overview

The Registered Practical Nurse will perform at their full scope of practice which includes, planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating patient care to those patients whose outcomes are well defined and predictable.

 

Education

- Registered Practical Nursing Diploma with current certificate of registration issued by the College of Nurses of Ontario.
-  Current certificate in BLS.
-  Current certificate in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP). 
-  Completion of an RPN Assessment course.
-  Completed a college course related to Support and Education of the Breastfeeding Client; must have current knowledge and skill related to the initiation and maintenance of breastfeeding at the nursing unit level.
-  Completed or committed to completing a postpartum/newborn assessment course from a recognized community college within one year of hire.
-  Proficient computer skills.

 

Qualifications

-  1-2 years recent experience in postpartum mother and baby care required.
-  Understanding regarding the learning needs of this population.
-  Demonstrate and articulate teaching strategies to address the needs of this patient population.
-  Able to articulate clearly the philosophy of patient focused care and family centered care.
-  Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-  Evidence of commitment to continuing education.
-  Post PRN certification in maternity newborn care preferred.
-  Ability to work efficiently with peers in a team approach.
-  Demonstrates excellent knowledge of the well mother/baby dyad and verbalizes.
- Good work and attendance record required.
