Requisition #: OCSAF2404 Job Category: Other Department: Michael Garron Hospital Job Type: Permanent Full Time Open Positions: 1 Job Number: J0424-1355 OVERVIEW The Safety Promotion & Prevention Specialist is responsible for ensuring a healthy and safe work environment in compliance with health and safety regulations/legislation. Under the direction of the Manager of Occupational Health & Safety, the Safety Promotion & Prevention Specialist will be responsible for the planning, development, administration and auditing of various health and safety programs which will assist in reducing/eliminating workplace illness/injury. This role will serve as a liaison with the Ministry of Labour on behalf of the Hospital and will participate on various committees such as the Joint Health & Safety Committee. Other areas of accountability will include performing job demands analysis, ergonomic risk assessments, hazard/riskand safety inspections, incident investigation, providing MSD support, designing and delivering training, as well as the creation/review/revision of occupational health and safety policies, procedures and programs. This position will support organizational excellence by further enhancing and fostering a culture of safety amongst the MGH Community. EDUCATION - Bachelor’s degree in a Health Science related field or equivalent related discipline such as Occupational Health & Safety - Completion of diploma or certificate program in Occupational Health & Safety is preferred - Professional designation preferred such as Canadian Registered Safety Professional QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum of five (5) years of recent relevant experience is required - Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of Health & Safety programs is required - Demonstrated experience with ergonomic evaluations and physical demands analysis is preferred - Demonstrated experience in performing hazard risk assessment(s) is required - Extensive knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations is required - Demonstrated knowledge and experience with data collectionand analysis is required - Demonstrated computer proficiency in the use of Microsoft (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required - Demonstrated knowledge of Parklane and RL Solutions software is preferred - Knowledge of N95 mask fit testing is preferred - Demonstrated excellence in customer service is required - Demonstrated ability in facilitation, team building, critical thinking and change management within an interdisciplinary milieu is required - Excellent communication (oral, written and presentation), interpersonal and conflict resolution skills is required - Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles, with the ability to train various Health & Safety Programs is required - Demonstrated ability to provide support to the JHSC is required - Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with 3rd parties (MOL, OHA, Vendors) is required - Working in a Unionized environment is required. - Demonstrate knowledge of Workplace Violence Programs is preferred. - Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and in a collaborative team environment is required - Demonstrated understanding of privacy and confidentiality is required - Excellent time management and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet tight timelines is required - Good work and attendance record required - All employees of Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a division of Toronto East Health Network (TEHN) [formerly Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH)]agree to work within the legislated practices of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario. - All employees of MGH are responsible to contribute to a transparent culture of patient and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by MGH. - All employees are accountable for protecting the psychological health and safety of themselves and their co-workers through adherence to MGH's policies and practices.
