Job Number: J0522-1019 Requisition #: FRACT2205 Job Category: Healthcare Professional Department: Fracture Clinic Job Type: Permanent Part Time Open Positions: 1 Overview The Orthopaedic Technologist serves as a technical expert in matters pertaining to orthopaedic devices and techniques providing care to patients through the application, adjustment and removal of a variety of casts, bandages, slings, splints and traction fittings etc. The Orthopaedic Technologist fullfills the responsibilities of the position with a high degree of autonomy within established guidelines working under the direction of a Supervising Physician to preform enhanced skills. Education - Completion of a recognized Orthopaedic Technologist Program. - Completion of a Physician sponsored Apprenticeship Program (2 years - in a Fracture Clinic) required. - Current registration with C.S.O.T - Canadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists required. - Member of local chapter of the Candadian Society of Orthopaedic Technologists required. Qualifications - 4-5 years of recent relevant experieince is required. - Demonstrated understanding or anatomical structures and their relationship to one another required. - Demonstrated ability to describe orthopaedic conditions required. - Demonstrated ability to apply adjust and remove all common orthopaedic devices. - Demonstrated knowledge of working autonomously under medical directives. - Demonstrated knowledge and ability to suture within medical directives. - Excellent recognition, critial thinking and problem solving skills. - Demonstrated proficiency in the proper application of aseptic technique. - Knowledge of theory and application of skin and skeletal traction. - Demonstrated ability to interpret fractures and dislocations on x-ray film. - Willingness to continue education to maintain certification as required by CSOT. - Ability to work well autonomously. - Ability to function collaboratively with other members of the health care team. - Effective time management skills, ability to organize work and set priorities. - Effective verbal and written comunication skills. - Proficient computer knowledge required. - Ability to perform in a fast paced emergency room envirnonment. - Good work and attendance record required. - All employees of Michael Garron Hospital (MGH), a division of Toronto East Health Network (TEHN) [formerly Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH)] agree to work within the legislated practices of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario. - All employees of MGH are responsible to contribute to a transparent culture of patient and staff safety by adhering to and abiding by patient and staff safety policies and procedures set by MGH. - All employees are accountable for protecting the psychological health and safety of themselves and their co-workers through adherence to MGH's policies and practices.
