OVERVIEW

We are looking for an enthusiastic self-starter and team player with a passion for content creation and storytelling! 
 
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Corporate Communications and Community Engagement Department (which supports MGH and ETHP) and a variety of hospital teams and community partners and will gain valuable on-the-job experience, skills development and mentorship in a supportive and inclusive work environment. 

This position follows a hybrid model and will include work from home and work on-site as needed. The successful candidate will report into the Senior Communications Specialist. 
Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume and two (2) writing samples to be considered for this role. This position is offered through the support of the Government of Canada's Canada Summer Jobs Program. All applicants must meet the minimum requirements of that program.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Summer Student’s responsibilities will span across the following areas:
·    Content creation (including interviewing, storytelling and writing content for web)
·    Internal and external communications project support (including communications planning and execution, asset creation, reporting and measurement, etc.)
·    Social media (including content and imagery creation and campaign strategy) 
·    Web and design support (including website updates and web design on Canva)
·    Media relations
·    Event support 
·    Other duties as assigned 
 

EDUCATION

The candidate will be a recent graduate or a student in their fourth year of a four-year Bachelor’s degree, final year of an Advanced Diploma or completing a Post-Graduate Certificate Program in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or related field. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

•    Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills 
•    Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
•    Experience with information gathering and the ability to synthesize and summarize information 
•    Demonstrated ability to work independently, and prioritize workload
•    Strong demonstration of tact and diplomacy with a customer service focus
•    Comfortable working within a team as a leader and/or team member and with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
•    Demonstrated computer literacy with proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
•    Knowledge and experience using Canva, WordPress, Drupal and/or social media considered an asset 
•    Basic knowledge of video filming and editing considered an asset 
•    Expectation of this role encompasses the need to maintain confidentiality with respect to all aspects of the work being performed
